TOPIC: What home inspectors are looking for to help prevent from scaring a buyer off
Presentation by Chuck Burnum, Home Inspector and SJREIA Business Affiliate
A few words from Chuck:
An interesting question arose at a home inspection. Why does a home NOT get an offer, what is the deal breaker?
This gets to be a tough question since it changes for everyone. Many times I believe it is the climb to the front door. Sounds silly but it is one of the first impressions is waiting for the front door to open. The lack of handrails and high uneven steps seems to turn off Buyers. This is not a dig at Realtors as I have no better solution. The 60 seconds or so to knock on the door, enter the combo or Supra code, find the key, unlock the door and announce you are there, are there are 60 reasons the house may fail to impress the Buyer. Buyers with small children may need to hold onto their child to keep them safe. It is no better for older people as the Buyers parents may not be able to climb the stairs. Mom and Dad cannot visit without help on the front steps. The safety issues will be documented on the home inspection report and remind the Buyers why their first impression was a bad one. My answer may be for the Seller but have safe and inviting front steps. Just sharing observances, thank you for reading.
